It's because sugaring EXFOLIATES your skin, leaving behind healthy skin with a beautiful glow. Our sugar paste only sticks to your dead skin cells. Whereas waxing can stick to both your dead AND active skin cells. You wonder why.....keep on reading Sugaring London's next blog!
Sugaring London was one of the first studios to bring the traditional art of body sugaring back to London. We are so incredibly pleased to see that so many of you are converting from waxing to sugaring as there is just SO much more to sugaring than just simply hair removal. Now Sugaring London has also extended its offering to something truelly unique. We don't just offer ' sugaring ' but instead we offer the complete CIRCLE OF SKIN CONDITIONING. What does it mean ? We want you and all the other lovely Londoners to get incredibly beautiful skin fast without costing the earth or being too complex. Instead we love to keep it simple, natural and vegan: get sugared on a monthly schedule and in between do your homework . It's easy , exfoliate, scrub, slab on a 5 minute mask and use our special moisturiser in between treatments . The best of it all - this routine takes no longer than 8 minutes twice a week. Yes - you can say "au revoir" too expensive moisturisers, abrasive scrubs etc because we really have something that works ... FAST. Your skin will thank you with a glow. Ask your therapist about it at your sugaring appointment.
Pain & Hair-removal. As we all know by now sugaring is / should be less painful than waxing. With everything beauty, a lot depends on the skills of your therapist (that's why it's ALWAYS important to ask you therapist how qualified she actually is to do the treatment). There are also a few things you can do to make your sugaring treatment as comfortable as possible. Let's face it , sugaring still extracts the hair so there will be some slight discomfort. But on a scale of things that are painful, in our opinion sugaring should not be more than a 3 out of 10.
So what can you do?
Well first things first. Regular exfoliation leads to beautiful skin and who doesn't want to have beautiful skin? Before your sugaring treatment, EXFOLIATE. If you want more information on exfoliation speak to your Sugaring London therapist. We also offer a fabulous Salt Scrub treatment. This treatment not only prepares your skin for your sugaring treatment, it also detoxifies and helps to combat all things nasty like cellulite.
Thirdly make sure you HAIR is LONG enough to get sugared. At Sugaring London we don't mind our first time clients to have very long hair but what we don't like is hair that is too short. Too short? With that we mean hair shorter than a grain of rice. So PLEASE make sure that your hair is at least the size of a grain of rice when you come in otherwise we will not get all the hair out and you may feel disappointed.
Fourthly STRETCH your skin. Especially, areas like the upper lip or the bikini area it's important to STRETCH that skin.
Fifthly BREATH. At Sugaring London we use a special sugaring technique that can prepare you to breath when the paste is flicked off. A deep breath in and out will also make the treatment more comfortable.
Finally, SMILE. You just found a treatment that is 100% natural and will transform your skin. Your skin will thank you with a glow.

For a start, pubic hair comes about because the pubis and surrounding area are, along with the axillae (armpits) the areas of the body most sensitive to testosterone. That's why women who are not otherwise hairy still have pubic hair and pit hair.
There are some women who have very low levels of free testosterone and who are not very sensitive even to the levels they do have. Women like that may have only a little wispy hair where their outer labia meet and a few traces of armpit hair.
There are others who have "female pattern" pubic hair which covers just the area of the pubis and has a straight, horizontal top margin. These ladies don't actually need to sugar wax or shave their legs at all, because their legs haven't been sensitized to testosterone and they don't have high enough levels of testosterone to cause hair growth there anyway.
More common for most women is a greater extent of hair growth. In other words, most women come somewhat nearer to the "male" pattern than the "classic female" pattern. e.g. most of us have leg hair; it's extremely common to have a male-type snail-trial from the pubis to the navel, most women develop at least some moustache growth at some point in their life, and so on.
To conclude even though our DNA is unique to each and everyone of us, our hair growth pattern is not. No matter if you are hairy or only have a few little hairs and are looking for a tidy up we are here to take care of you!

Think about the exhausting number of techniques available to us to remove unwanted body hair; waxing, threading, laser hair removal, shaving, depilatory creams and of course sugaring– when exactly did we decide that body hair was unacceptable?
Most ancient Egyptian women chose to remove all of their body hair, including the hair on their heads! It is believed they removed all of their hair as a response to lice, fleas and other parasites, and to prevent body odour, which was prevalent in their hot climates. They did this with tweezers made from seashells, pumice stones or early beeswax and sugar based waxes. Ancient Egyptians, early Middle Eastern and Asian cultures also saw the introduction of threading during this time, besides sugaring another procedure which has only recently taken off in the western world!
During the Roman Empire, body hair removal was considered to be a sign of class. Wealthy men and women used razors made from flint, tweezers, creams and stones to remove any excess hair, as those with any excess hair were regarded as lower class. Pubic hair was deemed uncivilised in this era, which is why many famous statues and paintings of Grecian women are depicted hairless.
During the Middle Ages hair removal was very popular when it came to the face, but not so much for the body. The style during this era, particularly driven by Queen Elizabeth 1, was to have all facial hair removed– including the eyebrows! It was deemed fashionable to have a large forehead, so women would remove their eyebrows and hair on their foreheads. They would do this by scraping metal strigil over walnut oiled skin, or bandages soaked in ammonia and vinegar.
In the 1700’s the first straight razor was introduced. A French barber, Jean Jacques Perret, created the straight razor for men which some women also used.
The 1800’s saw Dr Gouraud create the first depilatory cream named Poudre Subtile. Soon after this cream was released the modern day razor was born which created a hair removal revolution. Men all over the world began using this razor however it wouldn’t be marketed to women for another 3 decades.
The early 1900’s saw Gillette create the first razor specifically designed for women, the Milady Decolletee. Depilatory cream advertising also hit the masses; an ad for Bazin Depilatory Powder began circulating which promised to remove ‘humiliating growth of the hair on the face, neck and arms.’ A decade later, Harper’s Bazaar ran an ad featuring a woman with her arms raised and her armpits bare, the first ad of its kind. This ad painted underarm hair as unfeminine, unhygienic and completely unfashionable which saw the adoption of razor blades by more women and a major push in female body hair removal.
World War 1 also saw a partnership form between Gillette and the Armed forces, each soldiers standard issue gear included a Gillette razor which has helped forever solidify Gillette as the leading male razor brand.
Remington released the first electric women’s razor in 1940 after the success of the male version. The 40’s also saw Nair introduce their first depilatory cream which is still used today! Due to a wartime shortage of nylon, more products and techniques for hair removal hit the market as women were forced to go bare legged more often.
During the 1950’s, hair removal became more publically accepted. Since many depilatory creams were still irritating to the skin, women relied on razors to shave their legs and underarms and tweezers to groom and shape their eyebrows.
The 1960’s saw the introduction of wax strips which quickly became the method of choice for removing unwanted hair under the arms and on the legs. The first laser hair removal method was introduced in the sixties but was quickly abandoned due to its skin damaging tendencies.
Although electrolysis had been around for nearly a century, it became more reliable and safe in the 1970’s with the development of the equipment. This era also saw the resurgence of removing hair from the bikini area, as the swimsuit fad of the 60’s grew in popularity.
1980’s til now
Most of us rely on some form of hair removal in their everyday beauty routines whether it is shaving, waxing, tweezing, depilatory creams or laser hair removal. Unfortunately, these types of hair removal often come with unwanted side effects: rashes, ingrown hair, burns, you name it, we have seen it. But there is hope! We at Sugaring London have re-introduced the ancient art of hair removal: SUGARING and are taking it from underground to mainstream. At Sugaring London we're proud to say to its demand is at an all-time high and are continuing to rise. The last thing any bride wants to worry about is stressed out skin. Here is our honest thought on skin health.
Skin health in hair removal.
Hair removal is most optimally achieved when there are no obstructions inhibiting the product’s connection with the hair. What this means is that exfoliated and moisturized skin allow sugar directly connect with the hair leading to effective hair removal. When the skin is congested, dry or un-exfoliated, sugar has to get through all of that before it can effectively grasp and remove your hair! We here at Sugaring London prefer you do your Full Circle of Skin Conditioning (ask your therapist for further information) between hair removal treatments. Skin health is necessary for optimal results!
Hair Removal and your Honeymoon
The sooner you start sugaring the less worried you need to be for hair regrowth during your Honeymoon.
Even after just one sugaring session, you will notice the regrowth to be far less and the texture of the hair to be finer. If you sugar on a 3-5 week schedule, you will remove the hair in its "anagen"/active/ early growth stage- this is what you want! Doing this will disconnect the hair from its "food supply" and eventually will lead to reduced hair growth.
Skincare is one of the most important factors in preparing yourself for the big day! We can’t emphasize enough the importance of exfoliated, hydrated and clean skin when it comes to getting the most out of your organic spray tan.
